There’s a special treat for beer lovers over this festive season – as Ruddington’s craft beer and eco-shop becomes a specialist ale ‘bar’ at weekends throughout December.
Since opening in May this year, The Bottle Top – run by husband and wife team Anthony and Alex Preston – has been making quite an impression in the former Thomas’s Greengrocers shop at 2, High Street. Anthony is a huge beer fan whilst Alex has been busy introducing a raft of products and initiatives for Ruddington’s more environmentally conscious customers – including the return of plastic-free fruit and veg. Following the success of their involvement in RuddFest, and their own Oktoberfest earlier this year, a series of ‘Tap Takeovers’ from different Nottingham breweries will give Ruddington’s discerning drinkers another choice of venue every Friday (6pm until 11pm) and Saturday (midday until 11pm) during December.
Alex told us: “The Tap Takeovers really shine the light on small breweries and allow for people to try beers they may not have seen before. We hope that during the weekends there will be opportunity to meet the brewers behind the beers too. The tap takeovers are a great opportunity for us to support local breweries which again lifts the local economy too.”
The featured Nottingham breweries are:
- Black Iris – Dec 6th & 7th
- Castle Rock – Dec 13th & 14th
- Totally Brewed – Dec 20th & 21st
- Neon Raptor – Dec 27th & 28th
During these weekends there’ll be a gin and wine bar available, too! Alex added:“We put on these events because we like to bring something different to the village. Quite often our customers enjoy the nostalgia of drinking in a venue that has always been a green grocer, the vibe we cultivate is always very relaxed and social. Ruddington has some great pubs already but we feel that the micro aspect brings a different atmosphere and encourages people to really get talking and enjoy each others company.”
The Bottle Top’s usual trading hours are Monday to Thursday from 9am to 6pm and from 9am to 9pm on a Friday and Saturday – extended until 11pm in December for the open weekends. You can keep an eye on the latest offers and initiatives via their Facebook page >>HERE<<.
